Poor Tecsun PL-606
« on: June 04, 2024, 11:41:32 am »
Think it's time for me to buy a new Tecsun, I haven't really looked after it to be honest. I've dropped it more times than I can recall

What Tecsuns are others buying?

Antenna snapped after I drop it on concrete recently

A long while ago sorry but.. PL-310 has always been good for me. the 310 sounds better as well, slightly larger speaker and case, you
can still find them on aliexpress I think.

You can always put some wire on the hole left over and tape it on the wall or something. Even a piece of mains copper core 2.5mm solid would
stand upright (kind of) maybe at 60cms.

I always extend my Tecsun RXs antennas with a bit of extra wire 30cms as they always come up
a bit stingy with their telescopics which always break in the end. As you will know, I find 80cms of wire is good and for SW put as much as you can get on.
(though brings in more local noise as well)

I also put the plastic base on something metal and they bring the signal in even better, old toaster/big frying pan etc. bit of ground plane.

Adds a few dbs on the signals I find.

I did in fact get the Tecsun PL-310ET which I will agree is far superior to the PL-606, I believe the original PL-310 used 3x AAA cells, where as the ET version is now AA cells. It defiantly sounds much better and receives very well on all bands, (well LW when enabled is a bit lacking). Anyhow Its a good little radio. I do actually have 2 with one still new in box, I managed to get a trade account from a UK distribution centre and it cost a 3rd of the price they sell for on eBay.

Great cannot go wrong with them really. They used to be £29.00 back in the day and the old one was AA's also luckily.
They allow me to hear signals way further away than I should really, when the noise locally is not too savage.

Definitely the perfect low cost radio for FM enthusiasts and pirate signals, very good sensitivity vs selectivity.
