I would not spend money having a folded dipole installed. How will that SWR if it is no tunable and so on, 50 Ohm coax feeder ?
I would simply experiments with copper wires. GPA using an SO-239 or simple copper wires, even simply using centre core and braid of coax in dipole shape.
Better RX means more signals from more paths I guess, maybe neighbour electric wiring and antennas or extra height means you are RXing a reflected
longer path from the neighbourhood over a couple of miles.
With a GPA instead of spreading the radials over the 360 degrees roughly equally, you can bunch them in one 90 degree sector and get a slight directivity in the direction the radials face from the sector they are bunched probably 1-2db which is not much but you get corresponding rejection of 1-2dB the other way.
I like to make GPA from solid core copper 2.5mm twin and earth wire, sometimes I just use the thinner solid earth, they are almost self supporting I insulating tape the radiating element to a fibreglass flag pole.... and the legs dangle and hang out at roughly 45 degrees providing a match without any extra support. Not much good for outdoor windy situations but perfect for loft and
a quick bit of fun radio from a garden mast.
Don't get nicked NE... random, short bursts with a clean signal hurts no one. With the lack of big pirates OFCOM will be bored twiddling thier thumbs in front of the scanners/ DF array stations.
They might want to put a spanner in the works some regular timed anoraks day.
