Technical Corner / Re: 12m antenna mast very practical

I've used these fibre glass telescopic poles before but I have the "SpiderBeam" variant which is more or less identical I guess, however I never thought to use it in the way this guy has; I've only ever used them for EFW on MW and HF, typically with a air wound loading coil at the base on a PVC waste pipe. I did share this on the RN forum some time ago. I later used a toroidal FT 250-2 core with much success and made a simpler and easer installation.

I guess this would be ideal for a pop-up weekend station transmitting from a high wooded area. ;)

12.5m antenna tip has a good chance of getting out quite well. It would be above average roof lines of 2 storey houses. Way way above bungalow rooflines which are what 6m - DJ Commode and MC Zimmerframe rocking the airwaves !

Even on the flat it will go a good way, you could even put something under the mast near whatever the bottom is attached to and get the tip to 13M on a still day. Maybe for a couple of hour blast over to your mate's house or something. For old lang sine on NYE.

Maybe some man about the house audio or Robin's nest ? :D

Remember making the gp from the chart on pcs website, put in the loft it worked, many seem to have good results with it and are suprized by it, fed from the bottom with 50ohm coax, the perfect match. Good for keeping the hills alive with the sound of music, good when you’ve got ground which is higher

Maybe an eel caught in the server rack? I think it was legal in new zeeland to operate 300mw, maybe more I don’t know, there may of been a market over there.  Always think of xena and gabierial when I think of over there, maybe they listened to some jungle in the jungle.  8)

Only PCS gear that I’ve experimented with is their DAB kit which is not very cheap. However, after testing it out it seems to work very well.

There’s a lot to learn with a DAB kit. Everything is run over TCP to communicate with the transmitter and a whole lot of software to familiarise yourself with and understand.

WebSDR's / Re: SDR good for listening to Dutch MW pirates 1611khz -1700khz

Definitely my go to SDR for all things long, medium and short wave. I am lucky enough to be able to pick up some of the Dutch Pirates on my Tecsun, however, I do need to put into the US 10KHz stepping to get the expanded medium wave.

I did have an old hacker radio (can’t remember which one it was now) that was able to pick up some of the Dutch pirates too as it’s slightly went above the typical EU medium wave.

University Twente SDR in Netherlands...switch to AM and type in your frequency

http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/

You can often hear 3 or 4 of them at the weekends. Even if you cannot hear them in Uk/Europe, there must
be a few within earshot of this RX on the university roof.

I don't know how true this is, but apparently the same person who was running / hosting the radionecks forum is the same guy from NRG Kits in New Zealand, strangely that website has also gone down https://nrgkits.co.nz/

NRG Kits NZ has not been updated in a very long time, same for their FB page. I sent a message and nothing heard back from them!?

Good detective work zozo, that does not bode well. Maybe if NRG was a commercial affair it was sensible to run RN's website as a kind of influencer site
for sales but if NRG went down the pan. A bit sad in many ways if the motive was just to run it as a sales helping website. I might being cynical though.

I don't suppose selling PLL's is exactly a pension boosting money spinner these days !

All conjecture of course. A bit of a mystery.

I always thought the main veronica 1W board was a PLL, competing with the NRG.

So they made a free running VCO only one ? Interesting.

Their current PLL 1W is the tiny components one

https://www.aareff.com/en/1w-pll-fm-transmitter-kit/

Given the price I would definitely got for a PCS over that. 100pct, personally. Aaref is £261.00 inc vat + shipping for 1W stereo  ??? pricey.

Albert does not seem to like Aareff for some reason, I don't know enough about PLL rigs to be able
to confirm or deny if they are any good. Albert seemed to know the man who made NRG and spoke highly of him.

I wish the PLL makers would very clearly state if these devices are stereo out of the box as the PCB stands before adding extras. It is always a bit encoded pardon the pun
with MPX and what not. But they do not say if they already have stereo TX capability. It should be clearer. That would help them compete
against the Chinese 0.5/1/5/15W chip sprog rigs.

Ok you need to buy an encoder for Aareff that explains it is mono out of the box. All too expensive and there will be import charges
and courier charges on top. It seems they are in Spain ? You would be looking at £300.00 + by the time it gets to you for 1w.
