veronika is the only oscillator that doesn't have a problem with deviation... everyone else does. absolutely the best ever made. I don't think albert is giving away all the secrets

I think you are right there. If a station is not too greedy with their coverage and use good kit and maybe 5 - 20W or whatever it needs I think you make your
chances of staying on longer better. Sure you don't have the strong signal but you keep that signal out of areas where there might be less welcome listeners.

Always difficult to know but with more publicity of any kind there comes more unwelcome listeners as well. A double edged sword.

Technical Corner / 12m antenna mast very practical
« Last post by Schmellenschmellen on December 05, 2025, 06:01:23 pm »
A lot of fun could be had with a copper wire ground plane antenna and one of these. I imagine you could tape one on made from an SO-239
out of stock but you can find them in many places online.

https://www.radioworld.co.uk/spirit-of-air-12m-telescopic-pole

Just like this, no need for the drain pipe thing, I would imagine you could gaffer tape it on taping over the main element, dangle the legs be fine on a still day... I imagine something like 78cms elements : 300/freq mhz / divide by 4 = radial length roughly, better to cut a bit longer and trim it up.

I imagine you could tape the radiating element at the top and let it go above the top of the mast by 40cms safely, every bit of height helps.
I also imagine it would be good for low wind days, it would poke your GPA above the roof lines by some meters or so for average 2 storey houses.

Great reception  ;)

A lot of imaginings going on.

I don't know how true this is, but apparently the same person who was running / hosting the radionecks forum is the same guy from NRG Kits in New Zealand, strangely that website has also gone down https://nrgkits.co.nz/

NRG Kits NZ has not been updated in a very long time, same for their FB page. I sent a message and nothing heard back from them!?

I do remember this thing years ago in manchester were someone was transmitting quite high power signal, it was been talked about on a forum, went on for a while kept hoping they would stop, they got caught. There was quite a low power signal, it was mentioned in afew places, someone was saying how good it was wrote to ofcom, after been on 24/7 for a year it triggered them.
i’m pretty sure too someone was tracked from the videos they were posting, able to get the location from the videos, also the tx would of been putting out alot of noise over fm.
Do wish we had a different culture, dutch do have a nice culture of putting polka music out, in amercia people do put christmas stations on air, theres been the odd time were someone has put a really low power transmitter for some christmas lights, anything more likely be away to get the whole thing closed down. I know of someone who got reported for having a caravan in their back garden, large garden, some were selling food outside a house sandwhiches, got closed down, sad.

Sounds like the station your listening to is problalby going as far as it needs to go and no further, the sound of what frequent lee was saying on the old forum, they don’t like signals that cover a whole city, they would take them off every week. The way to build up an audience is online, doing over fm seems like it would be dangerous to me.

i’ve not seen myslq database since i put it on a website 20 years ago, suppose their probably reliant on the makers keeping these things up to date and having to update it yourself, big social networks, youtube, amazon never go offline they’ve got millions of quid to keep them going, you’ve got to hope that something keeps going, a big ask in the environment were living in today.
Thanks for the welcome, i’m surprised noone knows who owns it or has contact with anyone, I do think we had something nice. I was the last person to post on it, the next day it was gone, I did think clicked over the maximum number of threads, it can’t been that, didn’t like to think i’d broken it.
I did think of writing in a blog, kind of dilemma it not been there. I'd think about that too when the old radionecks was around, you’d make a thread over there, maybe afew months later someone would comment, find it on google, maybe some vaildating thing.

The 8066 i’ve got at 1w, the inband noise is not much more than normal desensitizing, with a match theres no danger of out of band spurs, harmonics were the same as max pro. If you wanted to use the full 5w you’d want to be further away from it, you'd want to put it in a box though.
You do get less inband noise on the bh chip ones, stereo is not as good as the 80 ones. 8027 is usally in the half a watt ones, puts out a smaller duplicate signal 12mhz above or below the main, hard to filter out, the inband noise is 4 times that of the 8066. The stereo is best on the 8027 I have, it doesn’t have a display, they scrubbed the markings off the chip, i’m guessing it is the 8027, from the duplicate carries and mondo noise, I mostly just use for listening to stuff in bath, so its not bothering anyone.

Maybe a christmas present for someone who likes broadcasting, wrapped in a bow.
Shemellen I get the impression they would have rig builders who would build them, did always wonder were pirates would get them in the 90’s, got the impression go in the back of watch/clock shop, someone would build them.
The veronica vco was really good, it wasn’t pll, remember having the 1w was really good, had the mono and the stereo built as a kit, they wouldn’t drift much.
veronica had mail order back in the 90’s, get the impression it was used for people playing about in their bedroom,  too expensive for pirates to use, 1w, they would need an amplifier, there was the 5w, guessing the builders might of copied the designs, added their own amp, I think they did sell big 10w transmitters boxes for rsls too at veronica, the old website for it is still as it was back in 1999.
