Technical Corner / MW sufficient ground ?
« Last post by Schmellenschmellen on July 11, 2026, 12:12:34 pm »
I think about a dirt cheap LPAM TX ground. Does anyone know whether a bit of old CB antenna piece of say 80cms of aluminium
tube with a copper wire coming from it would be best buried horizontally at 8 inches deep or pounded into the ground by 70cms vertically.

Also I imagine the shortest possible copper wire to the ground on TX would be best i.e. don't put the buried metal 3m away and run a 3 m copper wire over the lawn.

Sorry for silly newb questions.

I appreciate this is a compromise either way but just wondered.

someone was asking about doing a pirate broadcast on gary steven's forum, you know if someone is asking about preparation for a pirate broadcast it would never happen, maybe they'd need an eyepatch hat and a cloak, the full get up  :o heres a pirate broadcast I prepared earlier with pva, gaffa tape

Hello everyone.. Just getting back into things all radio again and had a tune around 2pm today and found **** bouncy type music playing on 108 fm.. Not coming through clear but managed to move a wire or two and picked it up!
It's a bit loud in places and it sounds a bit distorted, maybe no limiter or compressor?

If radionortheast sees this, or8 mate, hope your good 👍

here is my pi linking system. the TX is a rpi3b with a usb wifi dongle and a usb sound card plugged in. the software used to connect to shoutcast is darkice. i added some VU meters in so its easy to set the input volume. the RX is a pi zero with a audio dac hat. thats running pi core player. just plug in and everything starts working (if connected to wifi).
